From Iranian writer-director Asghar Farhadi. “The Salesman” makes dramas of domestic discord very arguably and begins with a couple that lives in an old flat becomes damaged, Emad (Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti) in Tehran, are forced to move into a new apartment. However, once relocated, a sudden eruption of violence linked to the previous tenant of their new home dramatically changes the couple’s life, creating a simmering tension between husband and wife. A master at exposing domestic discord through his multi-layered screenplays, Farhadi’s slow-burning, visceral drama explores the psychology of vengeance and a relationship put under strain while continuing to explore the condition of women in Iran and the male psyche.
This film is more than a revenge thriller, It has many behavior sides like mercy and vengeance. Both elements are justified but with an unqualified triumph. Despite of the wheel-spinning emotions, all characters are very convinced and realistic with desperate love from Emad in order to protect Rana. Definitely, it is a film that imposes certain narrative order on the events with drama and tension in its plot with an unexpected ending.
